Playwright information

Dr. Sophia Romma, playwright and screenwriter, received her BFA and MFA at NYU; PH.D. from Gorky Literary Institute. She is the author of eleven originally produced plays for Off-Broadway. She has had three plays produced at La MaMa E.T.C. Her play, “The Mire” (Cherry Lane Theatre) received rave reviews from the New York Times. Her play, “Cabaret Émigré” (Lion Theatre) was heralded by the Villager. Her most recent play, "The Past Is Still Ahead" was nominated for best original stage-play and best set/costumes at the Midtown International Theater Festival/ summer of 2013. She is currently a Playwright in Residence of the Mayakovsky Academic Art Theatre and the Producing Artistic Director of The O'Neill Film and Theatrical Foundation. She is Co-Chair of the League of Professional Theatre Women's International Committee and serves on New York University's Alumni Association Board, Co-Chairing on the NYUAA Regional and Global Outreach Committee. She is also President of the NYU Alumni Club in Long Island. Sophia has just graduated from Fordham Law School and has received her Masters of Law in International Law, Human Rights and Justice. Sophia serves on the Board of the League of Professional Theatre Women, is Co-chair of the Oral History Project at Lincoln Center and in acting Board Member of the Women in Arts and Media Coalition (in representation of ICWP). She is also the current active President of ICWP.
