Playwright information

In 2015-2016, Carolyn’s projects take her to Portugal, England, and Scotland. In July, her play Reticence was performed in Lisbon as part of the Disquiet International Short Play Award. Next, she was Playwright in Residence at Sell A Door Theatre Company in London from September 2015–July 2016 through the support of the Fulbright LUSK Award. Carolyn was also a Hawthornden Castle Fellow in Lasswade in November 2015.

Carolyn’s plays have been produced or developed at Chicago Dramatists, Stage Left Theatre, Live Girls! Theater, The Looking Glass Theatre, Centenary Stage Company, Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre, Theatre Seven of Chicago, 20% Theatre Company Chicago, Williams Street Rep, Great Plains Theatre Conference, Last Frontier Theatre Conference, Three Cat Productions Chicago New Work Festival, ATHE New Play Development Workshop, Pittsburgh New Works Festival, Chicago One-Minute Play Festival, The Puzzle, Theater Masters, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Directors she has collaborated with include Margot Bordelon, Hal Brooks, Anna Fox, Rachel Edwards Harvith, Anne Healy, Emmi Hilger, and Lavina Jadhwani.

She is a recipient of the Visionary Playwright Award and Commission from Theater Masters and has been a writer-in-residence at Ucross Foundation, Ragdale Foundation, and Anderson Center.
Carolyn has been a finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Leah Ryan Fund for Emerging Women Writers Award, Kitchen Dog Theater New Works Festival, Heideman Award, Old Vic New Voices Bloomingdale’s Playwrights Week, and Ronald Duncan Playwriting Competition. She’s been a semifinalist for the Princess Grace Award, Women’s Project Lab, and Marion Fellowship.

Academy Award winner Melissa Leo headlined the reading of Carolyn’s screenplay Magnetic at the Hamptons International Film Festival Screenwriters’ Lab. The project is in development with Producers Diane Nabatoff and Alex Ross.

Carolyn’s honors include L. Arnold Weissberger Award Nominee, William Randolph Hearst Creative Artist Fellowship, Shubert Fellowship, Aspen Ideas Festival Scholar, "Best Playwright" Award in The Looking Glass Theatre's Writer/Director Forum, Women in Film Mentorship Program, grant, two A.E. Hotchner Playwriting Awards, the Leota Diesel Ashton Playwriting Prize, the Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarship, and the Riceland Rice/Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation Scholarship. Carolyn has a B.A. in Drama from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon University.
