    The Foundation is committed to encouraging innovation, striving for social justice, and supporting diversity. The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on organizations or projects that translate the values into strategically designed and executed activities. The Foundation supports artists in residence programs, services for the elderly and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth in Los Angeles. Funding is awarded for animal protection, solar energy, and water conservation projects in Northern New Mexico. The Foundation also awards grants for programs that offer services to people in crisis and underprivileged children in North Carolina. Organizations in Los Angeles, North Carolina, and Northern New Mexico are eligible to apply.   • Funds for Editions and Translations of Significant Scholarly Materials

The Scholarly Editions and Translations grants program provides support for the preparation of editions and translations of pre-existing texts and documents that are currently inaccessible or available in inadequate editions, including the editions and translations of significant literary, philosophical, and historical materials, as well as other types of work, such as musical notation. Projects for editions or translations of texts that respond to NEH’s Bridging Cultures initiative are encouraged.   • Grants Promote Latino Arts Performances

    Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation: Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America
Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America, an initiative of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, will bring exemplary contemporary and traditional performing arts from Latin America to audiences in the United States that have little access to this work. This pilot program will invest in projects in which a consortia of presenting organizations work with a variety of community partners to offer opportunities for significant engagement with the artists from Latin America. The initiative encourages arts presenters to reach new audiences, including communities with origins in Latin America that reflect the demographic changes that have taken place in the United States over recent decades. Each presenter participating in a consortium is eligible for a grant of up to $25,000. The application deadline is February 10, 2012.   • Grants Enhance Cross-Cultural Understanding in Selected States

    Laura Jane Musser Fund: Intercultural Harmony Program

    The Intercultural Harmony Program, an initiative of the Laura Jane Musser Fund, promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between groups and citizens of different cultural backgrounds within defined geographical areas through collaborative, cross-cultural projects. Support is provided to nonprofit organizations in Colorado, Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wyoming that include members of various cultural communities working together on projects with common goals. These projects must be intercultural, rather than focused on just one culture, and must demonstrate tangible benefits in the larger community. Funded projects can be carried out in a number of areas, including the arts, community service, and youth activities. Planning or implementation grants of up to $20,000 are provided for new projects within their first three years of operation. The application deadline is October 12, 2011.     Seventh Generation Fund for Indian Development

    The Seventh Generation Fund for Indian Development is dedicated to promoting and maintaining the uniqueness of Native peoples and the sovereignty of tribal Nations throughout the Americas. The Fund’s primary grantmaking program areas include the following: Arts and Cultural Expression, Environmental Health and Justice, Human Rights, Sustainable Communities, Intergenerational Leadership, and Women’s Leadership. Grants from $500 to $5,000 are provided three times per year to Native communities that address one or more of the Fund’s program areas. The application deadlines are February 1, June 1, and October 1, annually. (Mini-grants of up to $500 are reviewed throughout the year.)   • OPEN MEADOWS FOUNDATION (02/15/12)

    The Foundation supports projects that are led by and benefit women and girls, particularly those from vulnerable communities. The Foundation funds projects that don’t discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity and expression, sexual identity and expression, age, or ability. Projects must be designed and implemented by women and girls; reflect the diversity of the community served by the project in both its leadership and organization; promote building community power; and promote gender, racial, social, economic, and/or environmental justice. Projects must also have limited financial access or have encountered obstacles in their search for funding. Organizational budgets should not exceed $150,000. Small and start-up organizations are strongly encouraged to apply. Proposals from organizations not previously funded have priority. The Foundation also administers a number of special funds that are targeted to specific groups or activities. Deadlines are February 15 and August 15 each year.     The Foundation makes grants primarily to Massachusetts organizations with some consideration given to other New England-based programs. Funding is targeted toward programs and projects that enable those who are disadvantaged in various ways to help themselves and others; that reduce social conflicts and create harmonious communities; that encourage informed civic participation on local, state, and regional levels; and that promote participation in the performing arts.
